South Korea Aims To Move International Court Over Japan’s Fukushima Water Move

South Korean Head of state Moon Jae-in ordered officials on 14th April, 2021, to explore moving a worldwide court over Japan’s choice to launch water from its Fukushima nuclear plant.

Japan revealed plans yesterday to launch more than 1 million tonnes of polluted water into the sea from the plant paralyzed by a 2011 earthquake and tidal wave, beginning in about two years after filtering it to eliminate harmful isotopes.

South Korea strongly protested against the decision, summoning Koichi Aiboshi, Tokyo’s ambassador in Seoul, as well as convening an intra-agency emergency meeting to craft its action.

Moon, at a different conference, asked for considering means to refer Japan’s decision to the International Tribunal for law of the Sea.
